Road Bikes
The Sano (all custom profile titanium):
The
Sano was created for those who want the proven durability and performance capabilities
of state of the art titanium. We emphasize state of the art because there are
some significant breakthroughs in what we are doing compared with other all
titanium bikes on the market.
The best way to describe what we have accomplished is to think of the Sano as
a Litespeed Ghisalo with oversize tubing. Oversize tubing is a concept that
just flat works. It's the same reason that stems, handlebars, seat-posts, etc.
continue to get larger and larger. You get essentially no weight gain but enormous
increases in torsion, and compression strength. All this is due to increased
tubing diameter that then achieves the desired weight and ride with Feather
Tech custom profile engineering.
The proof is in the quantifiable, objective numbers. A 56 cm frame weighs only
2 pounds 6 ounces (not 2.6 pounds which is more like 2 pounds 9 ounces) and
provides incredible stability, steering precision, and resistance to bottom
bracket flex. The results are even more dramatic on larger frame sizes.

So what's different about the "Nano" and why should you consider spending your very hard earned dollars with us when there are dozens of viable alternatives? Let us try to explain:
Funk believes in oversize tubing in a big way. Funk uses Feather Tech OS tubing which is also manufactured in Colorado. The seat tube measures 1.375 inches, the top tube measures 1.50 inches, and the down tube measures a whopping 1.75 inches. As tubing diameter increases, resistance to deflection goes up by the power of 4, an exponential function. Feather Tech has the ability to custom profile each tube utilizing computer technology for the desired weight and ride characteristics. Custom profiling is much more precise and tunable than conventional butted tubing which uses dated mandrel technology. Accuracy is held to an incredible -.000 / +.002 inch tolerance.
Easton's new nano-technology (hence the name "Nano") is utilized in the new SLX fork, chain stays, and seat stays. Funk is the first to utilize this awesome technology in conjunction with titanium. Nano-tube technologies focus on engineering the perfect molecules for each application, and believe us it works. The proof is in the weight. The SLX fork weights in at a scant 290 grams with an uncut 1.125 steer tube. With the combination of Feather Tech OS tubing and Easton's nano-tube technology a 56 cm frame weights in significantly less than 2 and a half pounds! So what was the objection to oversize tubing?
So what's this all like to ride? The words steering precision and control first come to mind. The OS tubing allows essentially no flexiness in the bottom bracket for unbelievable power transfer and the bike tracks through corners like its an extension of your mind. You might think this would correspond to a rigid ride, but this is where the carbon nano-tube technology and lightweight seat stays kick in big time. Road shock and vibration are held to an absolute minimum. You really need to ride it for yourself and see what we're talking about.
